Hi Rick:
There's a Magellan Platinum on Ebau just now at http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2430007600&category=30862

Play your cards right and you may bag a bargain.

Cheers

Hi Rick:

If you just go to

http://www.ebay.com.au
and type "Magellan" into the search window you will see quite a few GPS units available.

If you also want to look at Garmin models, the same procedure will work.

I have a very very basic Magellan 310 which I use to tell me where I am - no moving maps on this model, but when coupled up to my laptop, and using Oziexplore software and the Natmap map series (both available for purchase from this site) I can have moving map.
I don't use it as a street directory, just when I am out in the "boondocks".

If you get a Magellan, there is a Yahoo User Group that is very good, with lots of helpful people similar to those on this forum.
I am sure Garmin has the same.

Magellan Meridian is the go :-)

Easy to use GPS, and fully featured at the same time.

Ebay imports from the US are a bargain - but before you bid, make sure you understand the base map implications. More detailed info in that subject can be found at the Magellan Meridian Yahoo group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Magellan_Meridian/

I have a US import Meridian - I'm rapt with it :-) cost AUD$280 Brand new in factory packing landed to my front doorstep fully insured with express shipping (5days from US).Much better than AUD$699 here :-D

If you don't want to go through the drama of bidding on ebay, have a look at
http://www.mall24-7.com/

Its a US site, and remember to do your $AUD TO $US conversions when looking at prices. Several friends of mine have used to with complete satisfaction.
