Grandtrek v Dueler

Submitted: Thursday, Jan 31, 2002 at 00:00

Mark

I am going to but a set of 31x10.5x15 tyres for my ute. I have narrowed the choice down to Dunlop Grandtrek AT1 and Bridgestone Dueler 693. The price is about the same. I know everyone will say buy BFG or Cooper, but they are too expensive! Can anyone give me their opinions on these two tyres? Cheers.

Mark, I put on the Dueler ATs a couple of mths back on my Pajero and they seem ok - no more noise than the original Yokohama's I had but am yet to do much slippery stuff and too early to know wear characteristic. When I did my research many people bagged the Grandtreks.

Hi Mark
I just replaced set of Grandtreks with Duelers 963s and difference is unbelivable especially in the wet.My old set wasn't AT1 so i cannot say anything bad about them but Bridgestones are doing excellent job.Cost me $170 per tyre fitted.
I'm not sure how much BFG t/a or Cooper s/t cost but after a lot of research I think that 963 is just a better tyre.

Thanks Andrew. I have also heard a few bad comments about the Grandtreks, but am not sure if these criticisms were directed at the AT1. They are OE on the new 78 series Land Cruiser and they have been given a good wrap in the reviews I have read. Also I saw a Cape York video where Ron Moon was running them on his Patrol. They are also the choice for the boys in blue in Tassie on their 4wds. The Dueler 693 were $180, Grandtreks $185, BFG AT $220 and Cooper ST $240.

We put Dueler 693's on 30,000klm ago and they are half worn. We drive alot on dirt roads (70%). The wear have been fairly even. Handles well on wet dirt and bitumen
