We drove approximately 6000k's and l reckon the patrol used easily half the amount of fuel that the pajero would have! Needless to say, the pajero is going shortly and l will be buying an 80 series Cruiser---DIESEL! But that is just my opinion.

I have a 4.2L diesel patrol the best i fuel consumption i have gotten to date is 10.2L per 100km, norm seems to average around 13L per 100km although a always have my foot down
why not go to a larger size 4wd if you have a family the extra room never goes astray

Anyway, spend a weekend driving everything you can. Paj's, etc etc etc, petrols, diesels, manuals, autos and see what YOU like... Narrows the options down then, then post what you liked and disliked, and people with them models can answer!

99 TD Jack around town 10.5 L/100 - on the open road with HD camper all loaded up for a trip @ 90/95 kph cruising - 12.7 L/100 - on the dirt about the same @ 80-90 kph. In the rougher tracks seems to top out at 16 L/100 k. The 3.0 diesel is a great motor - others might be better but. Had my time again ..... might go to Patrol TD... still the Jack has been very good to me.Get me outa these suburbs !

I registered a Fj45 with a H2 diesel swap about 4 weeks ago. I don't know how many K's I've done since then as I haven't fixed the speedo yet but I haven't had to put any more diesel in it since I screwed the plates on. Every weekend I've been out in it including one trip up to Crocodile River which must be about 200 k's from Mt Isa. Its got an extra tank in the back but I know from experience if the motor was petrol it would be well and truly empty by now.
A fellow at work has got a 91 (I think) Nissan Patrol 3 litre petrol he bought about the same time as I got the Cruiser on the road and he is always wanting to come along with me as he can't afford to keep the juice up to it. Had a 2.2 litre series 3 Landrover years ago and it was the same story, forever putting petrol in it.
I'd never even consider another petrol 4wd.

As you are used to Petrol I reckon you'll go mad in a diesel. Take one for a drive, they are SLOW. As well as that they cost thousands more. Fit LPG to a Petrol and it will be cheaper to run than a Diesel and will perform much better. I fitted LPG to my GQ 3L a few years back and it paid itself off in under a year. Don't listen to the crap people will tell you about increased fuel consumption outweighing the benefits. The Patrol was giving 14 mpg on petrol and only dropped tp 13 mpg on gas. As for performance I couldn't notice the difference.

Petrol perfprmance on a Diesel budget, it's the only way to go.
