This is why I posted this message. All the extras on the vehicle may add the higher fuel consumption too. My rig is as follows:

Kaymar Dual Spare Wheel Carrier
6 x BFG AT 265/75/R16
50mm lift
Rancho suspension
ARB Air Diff Locker (front only)
Full length H/D Roof Rack with ladder and toolbox (front)
145L Long Range tank
Safari Snorkel
UniFilter (just installed -- fuel stats above are before Unifilter)
Rollerdraws

All this stuff is adding extra weight and I'm sure that the roof rack is not helping with aerodynamics either. Still, I think that the engine can possibly be tuned better ... Hopefully the Unifilter will have help a little.

Sorry I cant help with your question. Most of my 4bying is in and around Vic high country so Im never too far from fuel. You can get a bigger reserve petrol tank for GU but it obviously makes a huge difference in trip costs if running on petrol.

I originally was looking for a diesel GU Patrol too, but spotted this TB45E with more than $15K of extras already fitted at no extras cost (other than the higher fuel consumption off cause). Total Nissan in Cannington had this 99 TB45E for $32K and also a 99 TD42 for $34K. Both had similar KMs on the clock. The TD42 only had the standard Nissan Alloy Bullbar and a dual spare wheel carrier. All the extras already installed on the TB45E won it for me, but I did not expect the fuel consumption to be this high!

I have the Rancho RS5000 shocks fitted. I can't tell you much about the springs. The 50mm lift was apparently done by Opposite Lock.

All the gear was already fitted to the car when I bought it, so I can't make any before/after comparisons. I also have not driven any other GU Patrol to compare. In general I find that it handles/performs very well all round. Especially the offroad handling over rough stuff is very pleasing. Towing the Coromal Camper is a breeze (so far).

We are off to the Red Centre (Uluru, West & East MacDonnell ranges, etc.) this Sat. 13/09/03 for a 4 week trip. This will be a good test for the GU, Camper and me.
