Today we attended Jim's funeral at West Burleigh. Such a sad occasion, as funerals always are. We met three other EO members at the service, Wayne (waynepd) and the Geriatric Gypsies, Steve & Denny, all lovely people who, like us, are saddened by Jim's passing. The service featured the eulogy as posted elsewhere on the forum today, read by Jim's brother David. Jim's daughter Virginia also gave a heartfelt eulogy, describing Jim as "The Best Dad Ever" The braveness showed by both David and Virginia at carrying out the eulogies at the depth of their sorrow was very moving. There was a slide show accompanied by some well chosen songs from the Beatles, and Cold Chisels Khe Sahn as well. A very heartfelt and tender service.

We (Gayleen, myself, Steve and Denny... Wayne had to get back to another hospital as his Mum isn't well) met with some of the Potts family at Twin Towns for a drink afterwards, and got a small insight into what a close knit family they are. Jim's two brothers, David and Steven, are absolute characters, and regaled us with some wonderful yarns about their (and Jim's of course) adventures.

David and Steven asked us to thank everyone on EO for their thoughts, prayers and well wishes over the last few weeks, they have been amazed at the response from EO and the Codan forum as well. They both intend to post on here in the next few weeks to personally thank everyone.

I had some more cards in my PO box over the last week or so, but we have been very ill here with the flu and unfortunately didn't get to deliver them to Jim. But I have enclosed them in an envelope with a printout of the posts from David H's post on Friday, and Steve and Denny have printed out some posts as well, and we have forwarded it to the family.

Steve and Denny will post on here as well tonight or tomorrow, it was a real pleasure to meet them, and Wayne as well, just a shame the circumstances couldn't have been better.

In closing, something I remembered from Virginia's eulogy, she said "please, everyone, every day remember something about my Dad, and keep his memory alive"

Farewell Jim.........

Goodday All
As Brian has said above a very sad and moving service and a very caring family but by jeez would have been interesting growing up around them as his brothers are a pair of real wags
An interesting sideline to footy we all know he wrote sevearl poems and they were on here but he was also a noted Author with a couple of books to his credit 2 of which are in the national library in canberra
1 is called "son of a ten pound pom"another is "white mans dreaming "there is a 3rd novel as well but these are the 2 in the library

I had the sad privilege of attending the funeral of a man whom eveyone respected and whose family loved him immensely. Brian has covered the funeral ceremony well in his post....

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jim, but his posts showed him to be an intelligent, caring, humourous and warm person. Being up here on the Gold Coast at present, I couldn't have stayed away from his funeral if I had wanted to, he needed a proper farewell from family, friends and strangers alike.

Unfortunately I was unable to have a drinkies afterwards with the Potts, but I did speak with David before I left and I felt the pulse of intellect and humour that runs through this family. I reckon David could spin a few yarns around the campfire himself :).

It was nice to meet Brian and Gayleen, Steve and Denny from EO if only the circumstances had been better.

This point about meeting under sad circumstances was echoed by Jim's other brother Steven and David's reply was...."These are the sort of people you meet in the outback..."

From this commet I think we represented EO in a favourable way to Jim's family

CYA on the othe side Footy

RIP J Potts

Thanks for all your help Brian in getting well wishes to Jim and the family.

It seems cold comfort but I will take anything at a time like this, that a man so passionate and dedicated to communications will be communicating his kind words, wisdom and humour via this internet medium long after he has departed this life. Many people will reference his vast knowledge and help given to us already for many years to come.

RIP Footy.
