I realise there are legitimate overheads in running any sort of retail outlet, but when you pay about ten times what you might expect for simple electronic box you start to wonder. Frankly, the box has no more in it than a low voltage light transformer which sells for about $20.

Yep, know the feeling xxx, I had to buy the main electric window control for the drivers door for my 60.
That was 1997, and it was just under $500 then.
A bit of plastic and a few contacts and buttons.
Wish I had wind up windows.

Said parts guy away for lunch (at 1130) took my number said he would ring me.

No phone call so went in and asked.. Dont know what you are talking about he said.

I said well every ******ing tradies truck has them He said we dont have them.

I said well how much are they . Wouldnt have a clue was the answer.

I said Im sorry its too much trouble to use the computer .

I will wait till I get somewhere that knows the meaning of service.

Walked out while he picked his jaw up.

Have also heard other stories about this dealership but it may land me in Court if I publish it here.


PS got them in Pt Hedland no trouble from a combined Toyota Nissan dealer.

Talk about covering all bases LOL

There are companies here in Aus which import direct from Thai & Jap Toyota dealers. Toyota Aus is charged more from Toyota Japan than what these companies can buy from OS dealers.
We have companies selling genuine parts to the trade, for less than the dealers are paying for them, and still making money.
Toyota Aus can't stop it legally, & Toyota Japan doesn't seem to care as they sell the bits either way.
There is alo a problem with aftermarket parts in Genuine printed boxes.( Known as parrallell parts ). this is of course illegal and Toyota ( & other manufacturers ) do a lot to stop this sort of operation. But like SPAM, they just keep slipping through.

Also had to order some more jack handles and stuff and stupidly got them through Broome Toyota, took a week to geta] and i had to pay freight costs.. None in stock, thats ok. Wreckers got my parts up from Perth overnight. Freight free and still $45 cheaper. Explain that.

The dealer said my back brakes were nearly worn out and they'd do a disc skim as well. Told them to hold it. I did a check, and by extrapolation, reckoned I still had another 20k left on the pads. I ended up changing them after about 25k, and then only coz I had the wheels off, so I reckoned it was about time. The discs were still perfect, and no skimming necessary.
At an earlier service, they reckoned the power steering fluid was very dark and needed changing (this was after about 60k). I argued that the service interval was a lot longer than this, and that my earlier GQ (Mav) went for 250k without a problem with discolouring of the fluid. Ah, yes, was the reply, but the GU is a much heavier vehicle and the power steering works much harder. I pointed out that the GU has an oil cooler that the Mav didn't have, therefore the fluid should have been under less duress, not more. Well, it's very dark, and it should be changed. They only charged me $80-odd. When I picked the vehicle up, they had a neat little Castrol advertising thingy on the counter with three vials of steering fluid, one very dark, one dark and one normal. Pointing to the dark vial, they reckoned that's what my fluid looked like. Obviously, this was an "extra service" push, promoted by Castrol. I've kept a sample of the fluid after they changed it, and 150k later, the colour still looks very similar in the reservoir to that of the sample.
Why do we get disillusioned with dealers?

The part is common to a whole raft of Toyotas. The part is labelled Denso and Toyota.
