No need for a 4wd to go to Weipa mate just watch out for some of the dips around Archer River.
We were there a few weeks back and the road was good as I have ever seen it.
A lot of road works at the moment and more and more bitumen all the time.
The longest stretch between bitumen stretches was about 50 k.
Of course there are some rough sections but nothing that will give you trouble just drive to the conditions and let a bit of pressure out of your tyres at Lakeland.

Fishing can be a bit tricky without a boat at Weipa but if you travel about 90 ks further north to Mapoon you can catch some excellent fish off the very long stretches of beach and rocks.
Good camp area with cold showers and permit required
Cheers Ray
PS... Go for it, you won't be disappointed

Good fishing off Evans Landing, also under the Androm Bridge. Both close to the middle of Weipa.

We have established you can get to Wiepa ok with your rig, and the CV pk at Wiepa has trailer boats to hire out, a bit expensive from memory, but definitly available.
