Article Overview - Strzelecki Track
The Stzrelecki Track is strictly the route form Innamincka to Lyndhurst, however our trek note is for travellers starting at Innamincka and travelling down to Arkaroola Village in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. View Full Article...
Hi, I was informed that there is patches of bitumen on the Strez, can anybody confirm this? I was aware that there is bitumen between Lyndhurst and Marree, but didn't know about the Strez!

Regards

I understand that there are passing lanes being built at present, I was told 5 in all, and each 5km long.

Traveller replied:

Inside information is that the Strzelecki (Track) Road will be bitumen in the not too distant future = 5 years.

It will connect Moomba, the Geothermal Field and Innamincka with the south.

This road will eventually cross the Cooper to join up with the bitumen road through the Jackson Oil Field in Queensland

That sounds quite likely. I travelled the Strzelecki two weeks ago and was surprised at the volume of heavy traffic (road trains) that it now carries to support the Cooper Basin oil and gas fields. Just south of Montecollina Bore, there was a major road upgrade just commencing with both road widening and re-alignment according to the marker pegs. Seems a pity to see the Strez become a bitumen road but I guess it's inevitable at some stage.

Howdy all, long time lurker first time poster....

Can confirm Traveller's inside line after speaking to old mate in Tibooburra recently. Apparently the road trains can't get through when the roads wet.

He also reckons the CSR is being looked at for upgrading in parts - how upgraded he didn't say but its one for the rumour mill anyway!
