i guess the first thing is size of the unit itself. The 3100 is much smaller and probably more easier to fit depending on your preferred location in your vehicle. The 3220 has the extra channels if you wish to hear the cops ambos etc.

Intertsingly i do notice a new style of microphone in use. A while back I posted that i had gone through 3 mikes for my 3200 and have only recently found they had a problem with the solder joints cracking and needing resoldering and the problems are gone. Quite a common problem with the MC407 mike it seems.

Yes, unfortunately the quality control of GME radios has fallen dramaticlly lately.
I have an 'old' GME TX472S (I think Noah had one in the ark)..and it's a beauty.
The newer stuff does leave a lot to be desired, with a lot of the components, PCB boards etc made 'overseas', and then assemled in Oz.
I guess it's just another example of 'selling the farm' !!!!

Hi zacc
The TX3100 is one of the new breed of radios produced by Standard Communications. They still are 100% made right here in Australia (Sydney), full 3 year warranty, full 5 watt legal output and a top unit, that will fit in any out of the way place. As for extra channels, these have to be fitted and are a receive channel only. As for listening to the Police, they will only talk on the usual channels that are fitted, eg channel 40 for talking to truckies etc. Any private conversations are all carried out on there on network.

Cheers
