Those of you that get out and about and travel our great nation would have come across a small sticker placed in some very remote and out of the way
places. The small sticker is in the shape of a fish with the words "The Carp" inside the fish symbol. Does anyone know who is this phantom sticker placer, as he does get around. Perhaps we should give him a pile of EO stickers instead.

Yes we saw them all over the Anne beadell Hwy. nearly as bad as all those EO stickers.. :-(

Yes we have seen many of his stickers in many
places over many years. They have been placed in many varied
places, from
toilet cisterns, to roadside sign's. Our latest find was on a roadside sign between
Hawker and
Yunta last week. Unlike you, I do not have any photos of his trademark logo, but was promoted to see if someone knows who this person is after seeing one of his trademark stickers on the
Coober Pedy - Vokes
Hill sign in the
Anne Beadell Highway story in the latest Australian 4WD Action Magazine.
Perhaps he may read this
forum at give himself away.

I have been franticly going through many hundreds of photos, hoping that by chance I may have captured on of his tell tale stickers. The only thing that I can show you is this unreal sight that we came across while kayaking - a carp circle. While paddling up one of the quite backwaters near
Renmark, we noticed a couple of carp on the surface of the water, them in turned into up to a hundred or so carp in a very small area. What we witnessed was a carp breeding group. After about 5 minutes, we wanted to see how close we could get. Within a couple of paddles, they just vanished as quick as they appeared.

Howdy Stephen, this would be a pretty rare sight these days with no backwaters. I remember around 20 to 25yrs ago we were very heavily into catching carp and we came across a breeding school of carp on a backwater at Teal Flat on a potato
farm and no joke we reckoned that it covered at least an acre in surface area. The sound was incredible also, sounded like a great mass of surging water. Great memory.

Hi Krakka,
Because
the pool levels are still kept at a reasonable stable level, there are still lots of carp in backwaters around
Renmark. The ones that we see are big, over 40 cm long and I am quite often able to literally hot them with my paddle. We even catch them from the town wharf, just using bread as bait, and then feed them to the local Pelicans. The ones that we catch on the town wharf are usually about 30 cm long, but have managed to catch a few fig ones.

( Put the kayak into the old Res yesterday for its maiden voyage, went ok without tipping out Hahaha, Res almost full, nice up there at the moment)

Hi all,
The Carp (don't remember his real name) was here in early may this year, with a group of mates in 4wd's & dirt bikes.
They couldn't cross the Simpson due to Eyre creek being flooded at the time so they grabbed a lot of supplies ie: booze & headed out into the desert for a few days.
They had a great time, broke a couple of the vehicles & a bike & came back & stayed here for a couple of nights.
When I asked about the CARP sticker, he answered that his mates have been calling him that for years because carps will eat any sort of rubbish! So he had the stickers made up & has been sticking them all over the place since then.
We got them to place donation in the RFDS box before he stuck one in the pub.

At least you have spoken to him in the flesh. He must certainly get around, as we have seen his stickers for a very good number of years. They are small and make all those that see them wonder "Who or what is The Carp"

He's been around a while Stephen. Saw his little stencils all over when we did the big lap in 2006. Been seeing his sign ever since. Always blue paint. Thankfully usually only on signs and made made facilities and not on the Natural environment.

We have been seeing "The Carp" logo stickers for a long time as
well. I have never seen them painted though, only ever small stickers, in blue, black or yellow. Like you, they have only ever been placed on roadside signs and inside of men's
toilets (mind you, I have never been inside a ladies
toilet to see if "The Carp" has surfaced there as
well)). They are a real talking point when you are somewhere remote, come up to some form of Roadside sign, only to find out "The Carp" has beat you there.

We have always wondered who the mysterious 'Carp" was too.
So now we know, and he has been to many
places, which means we also must get around a bit to see these stickers of his.
One place we have recently been to, and never saw one 'Carp' sticker,
Cape York. So he has either been there and had no stickers, or he has yet to go there. If it's the latter, I'm glad we beat him for once.

To be honest, I have only seen his stickers in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Good to see that you beat him to the Cape.
What I was hoping through this
forum was to see if someone knew him in person, or even for "The Carp" to make himself known to the rest of us. He likes getting to remote
places and what a better place to gather the best information, than here on EO.
