I'd like to say back by popular demand but in finishing off this years trip journals, a bit of video from our last day on the Connie Sue. Here we head down to Rawlinna on the Trans Australian Rail line via Premier Downs Station. From Rawlinna it's east to Haig and then south through the station country to the Eyre Highway and Cocklebiddy. Plenty to see and even captured a passing train. At least they're easy to see coming.

Cheers Mick

Truth be known mate, I'm glad he didn't. I had no idea just how frightening one of those things is bearing down on you. You can see me start to go over backwards on the video. Thank god for antishock as I fair $%^& myself!

Cheers Mick

P.S. Did you count the number of wagons?

Road is closed from Haig to Lyons in SA. No signs up around Haig as the video shows. Must start further east.

Cheers Mick.

"Road is closed from Haig to Lyons in SA" wheres this come from.. LOL geting shorter all the time..

""Trans Continental Railway
You can now only follow the rail line from Kalgoorlie to Rawlinna. It is illegal to travel east of Rawlinna and absolutely no permits are being issued. In South Australia you are also permitted to travel the few kilometres along the rail line past Tarcoola to pick up Googs Track. The track beside the rail line is now on private property. This was a result of the corporatisation of Australian National Railways. Regrettably, there had been far too many instances of travelers breaking down, or needing help, and they were, incredibly, flagging down the trains! Management have now simply barred access and will have transgressors dealt with as trespassers. The fine can be quite hefty. You have been warned!"" copy right aproved, stole it from the same site. ;-)

I know someone who has traveled it, and she says there are no signs.. :-)

Cheers

Richard

Good one Mick...
Finished my first attempt at video the other day... it's pretty good if I say so myself. Unfortuantely it's about my SWMBO and her quater horse... so probably won't go over to well here. Will have to start videoing the 4by trips now I know how to.... lol...

Hi Mick,
Good stuff. Does this mean we now have to wait till next year for the next installments ? And I presume you're using a Mac to make your video's ?
Cheers, Mark.

Nope. A good old Dell desktop and Windows Movie Maker, nothing more. I'm a bit busy for a week or two but want to get back to the Great Sandy Desert stuff in the near future. A couple of blogs to complete so they might go on sans video. Very time consuming and I'm in enough strife already LOL.

Hi Mike,
That brings back a lot of memories. I worked at Kitchener(a siding west of Rawlinna) in a single man's camp for 18 months pulling out wooden sleepers & replacing with concrete ones back in about 1973/4.
Cheers Dave...

Dave, hard work I'll bet. I remember the pay train heading out to the fettlers in the Mallee in the early 80's. Came complete with a safe, a paymaster and the local coppers. The workers would only accept cash in the pay packets in those days LOL. Glad you enjoyed it.

Cheers Mick

We started work about 6.00am till about 1.00pm because of the heat. The Tea & Sugar arrived on Monday around 7.00pm, you got your pay at one end then went down a couple of carriages and brought supplies and grog for the week which never lasted till the next supply train LOL.

Dave,

I've got to be honest, those memories are GOLD! You should really be writing those things down and posting them fella. Photos all the better. They are times that while not that long ago, are so different as to be almost unrecognisable. Sort of like typewriters Vs computer. We see those huge machines dragging and replacing sleepers these days and yet so few short years ago, teams of blokes did the same job. In the same time, all those sidings have died, Mate please get writing. Mick
