How odd that nobody has mentioned thermal efficiency. Tests have shown that having the lettering on the inside helps to reflect engine heat and thus contributes to
tyres running cooler. This works best in summer.
In winter, the reverse applies. It is often best to turn the
tyres over once ambient temperatures begin to drop. The black sides will then absorb more engine heat and help keep the
tyres warmly efficient.
Sheesh - am I the only person here who knows this important stuff?
