Hi all,
I am looking for a 4WD coaster so I can see IF it will suit my needs.
I am not quite ready to purchase untill I have seen one or two in the flesh.
I just want to see what the undercarrage looks like and the differences between the factory Toyota BB58 4WD coaster and the Oz modified into 4WD versions with either F350 or international diffs.
I know some have a 4.2 crdi Turbo and intercooled engine and some had the 1HZ or 1HDT, I just don't know when they all were released.
If anyone has seen one for sale or in use near Bundy or in Qld that I can examine, please let me know.
I have found out that the factory 4wd versions are full time 4wd with no low range. Is it possible to put a landcruiser TC with low range straight onto the current gearbox (whatever that is).
Cheers
Dave

Thanks Kev that is the model I'm after as the body is a lot stronger than the newer round shape.
I have sent him an email but it looks like a coal
mine vehicle to me.

Dave
The first factory ones were out in the late 90's and were the BB55, 1HDT 6cyl turbo with 4 speed auto, constant 4wd, push button to lock centre diff and no low range. They have independant
suspension all round with portal hubs and single wheel/tyres all round. Only small wheels/tyres around 7.00 x16 overall size but they are 17.5 rims I think. Total production apparently less than 100.
The later models came out in early 00's BB58, 15BFTE 4.1 litre 4 cyl turbo intercooled diesel with 4 speed auto, push button to lock centre diff and no low range. Portal hubs/independant
suspension on the front but spring over/solid axle/dual rear wheels, tyre size same as earlier model. Total production apparently less than 1,000.
The independant
suspension and portal hubs are lifted straight from the Megacruiser.
there was also a Dyna made with straight Megacruiser running gear including 37" tyres which would have been a weapon. Bugger all made, apparently less than 20.
Send me an MM and I'll flick some pics to an email address.
Peter

We have the 2wd version with the 4 cylinder 4.1 and it is one of the quickest commercial vehicles I have ever driven. It is a 6 speed manual and in 5th at 100 it still has 1000 rpm to go if the correct tacho is fitted. Dave it will go up past Yetholme service station at 110ks in 6th. Quite a few of our rental clients have been booked for doing in excess of 120, which they all claim they had no idea they where going that fast.

Can relate to that, when I had my na diesel Rocky the loaded semis where starting to pass me on that
hill. Amazing how far diesels have come in the last 25 years, but will they be as reliable?
