Portable CD and Batteries

On the last trip I took our portable CD player ( 3 in one ) with new Batteries ( 6 in the back) They lasted 2 CD's and were flat. I thought something was wrong with the set but Harvey Norman informed me this was normal on battery power. Anyone else had this problem. From now on I will be plugging it into the Camper Trailer's batteries ( 2 x 105dc).

Not the best solution by far, but we hade some success with a walkman type player that made like a tape into your deck and ran of the in car system.
Worked fine but was certainly a walkman over the dash when in motion, though a small piece of that non-slip rubber matting helped in that regard.

Ross thanks for that but I already have a CD in the truck. This is just for camping. I think the invertor idea sounds ok. I'm not really up on all this power business so I guess I will have to have a yarn to the 12v shop in Bris. Sarah Brightman sounds good anywhere, especially in the bush.

Get a new 3 in one that takes 8 1.5v D cells in the back, plenty around. Then don't buy batteries and hook it up to a 12v battery via the rear section where the batteries are meant to go. As 8 x 1.5v is of course 12v it will run far more efficiently straight off a 12v battery than thru an inverter or thru a bunch of expensive small capacity D cell batteries. Just ensure you get the polarity right the first time or it won't work at all or ever. Mine is connected to a small marine 12v plug with alligator clips that curls up inside the battery compartment when not in use, the other ends are soldered to the correct connection.

Thanks Paul.. Since logging on with me query I have found out that Dick Smith sells a connection that goes straight into the back of the CD and the other end has a cigarette lighter connection. Sounds pretty good to me. Only costs about 5 bucks.
