Stockton Beach, what a mess !!!

I hope it was no one from this site but we were up at
Stockton Beach yesterday, there was crap everywhere. I understand there was a big storm on saturday night with 90k winds etc but does not excuse leaving,poles from tents,awnings,tarps,empty bottles,empty cans of beer, soft drink etc, you name it,it was left behind, disposable nappies even. No wonder they are shutting things down and stopping 4wdriving. Then there were the clowns who were absolutely screaming over sand dunes with no idea of what was on the other side. Luckily my mate who saw a 100 series t/d coming flat knackers towards the top of the dune and had all intentions of flying over the top, Had my mate not stopped him at the top of the dune where we were he would have for sure without a doubt nose dived the other side on his way down and would have possibly killed some one it was nearly a vertical drop. If you are reading this and it was you don't complain next time they shut down a place due to the rubbish................Regards Steve

G/Day mate!, Its getting worse where ever you go!, Whats so hard about having a rubbish bag, then dispose of it......IMHO theres a lot of younger generation women out there as
well ,that need a good kick up the kyber in the way they handle their personal hygene, as far as rubbish of all description is concerned, It makes you wonder how some have been brought up at
home?
You don't have to look far when out and about to find dumped rubbish.

Unfortunately the more people that purchase 4 wheels drives the more damage is going to be caused to areas that were once pristine bush. Many people consider that once you've got your 4x4 then the sky is the limit (so to speak). Perhaps the Govt. should consider licencing 4 wheel drive owners, restricting where they can travel, why, when etc. Might go some way to preventing carnage such as at
Stockton.

So for the few that do the wrong thing - More rules and more restrictions on people that do the right thing - Typical reaction of the times.
How about picking on the people that are doing the wrong thing and leave the rest of us alone to enjoy what we do responsibly.

They already restrict where we can drive -- Its called a 1 inch thick cable that now runs around most national parks

I agree,
stockton beach is just littered with rubish, and it'snot only the younger ones.
I've seen people just throw stuff out the window. I've had stuff lying around loose in my vehicle and blow out. i stop and go and pick it up!!
many just keep driving.
How about we do a gathering at
stockton and do a rubbish pick up weekend????
I know that would be a hassle, maybe if the people who do show up get free access to the beach for the reward???
we might get a few????

Hi Christopher,
There is one every year as you describe. To keep up with the pigs you'd need one per week.
Last years was on or about Sunday 25th October so this years will be on a Sunday around that date.
Yes, you do get free
beach access for that day if you participate in the cleanup.

Well why can't they allow the ones who do the clean up free access all year round????

Hi Christopher,
I'd suspect the rules on waiving the access permit fee aren't decided by the National Parks as they are the managing agents for the Worimi people who are the owners of the land.
Perhaps a call to national Parks might add some more information to your question as I only posted the information for your assistance.

Stockton - we were thoroughly dismayed with the carefully bagged rubbish(supermarket bags) AND the three to four metre ribbons of
toilet paper streaming away from human excreta, all left just less than a metre away from the water line at the public
boat ramp and
day use area of - wait for it - yes Eildon
Dam in Victoria. It was between the ramp and the spillway!
Some of the day use folks were unconcerned. What did they tell us?
Oh! It's only irrigation water, not for drinking!
PWHAT! HEXSKUSE MOI!
Being from SA, it is coomon knowledge that ALL Murray water can end up as drinking water! THANKYOU oh so much to the whom evers!

I thought that a few months back the NP in
Newcastle organised a clean up day for
Stockton Beach so I wonder how that went.
I see no reason why it coulnt happen again and yes the ones responsible should be held to account to allow the responsible ones to not be penalised for deeds of others.

Hi Ian,
The cleanup happens every year and has been for the last 13 years.
It had a great turn out apparently, it was the first one I'd missed since its inception! (Vanuatu called)
Last years was on or about Sunday 23rd October meaning this years will be on a Sunday around the same date.
Beach access permits are waived for the day for participants.

I realise that Geoff and two wheels on the front is common but 2 spares to replace them is not common.
Although I must admit that where cars travel 90% plus on tar they should carry two spares. Ha Ha.

HI all -- there is a clean up day of stock beach once a year --- maybe it should be once a month --
I camped there about 1 year ago -- guy pulls up next to me sets up
camp -- wife 3 kids ---
few days later he packs up ( whilst i am at the water with the kids )
I return to see he has left 3 LARGE garbage bags full of crap in a neat pile
i thought being a family man he would do the right thing so didn't get his number plate -
do people think they have a weekly rubbish collection as they do in suburbia ?
