I would say a definite yes. On my trip in '99 every other vehicle was towing a camper trailer. We even passed a couple of 2 WD sedans towing conventional caravans,although I think that would be a very hard trip on car and caravan.Kalumburu Mitchell Falls and some of the tracks in to the gorges are definately four wheel drive. The main hazards of the Gibb River Road for any vehicle are endless corrugations ,numerous creek crossings, and loose sharp surface stones.Vehicle and trailer suspension needs to be in top condition.I am not familier with the campers that you mention if they are made with off bitumen travel in mind they should be o.k.Bear in mind that the G.R. Road is only graded once per year as soon after the wet as possible so the earlier in the season you travel the better the road.Also the Kimberly is much nicer in May and June before the country drys out. I took a Campomatic in June 2001 without troubles on Gibb River Road, the Mitchell Falls Road and the Road to the Bungle Bungles. Met a lot of people doing the same thing.

I have been looking at the Jayco Hawk with the Outback option and also a heavy duty offroad BushMaster camper trailer.... I have talked to some people who say (this is their opinion) that the top is still a caravan and risks being shaken to bits on the likes of the Gibb River, also the Hawk is bigger/heavier than the Bushmaster (Wandering Star / www.hireemholidays.com.au) but then the wife says one is 5 star luxury and the other a canvas tent atached to a trailer. In the end they are both more luxurious than the small tent that I originally planned on taking. But I think the purpose build 4wd trailer with metal fittings will out last the wood and plastic cupboards of the Hawk outback pop-top. Though we still haven't decided yet and hopefully the Perth Camper show (14 March onwards) will help us decide.
