David Carnegie Retracing Expedition

Submitted: Sunday, Oct 05, 2003 at 18:06

I have just completed a website covering an expedition I was part of in which David Carnegie's Epic 1896 journey was retraced.

The website address is:

link text

The expedition was in April / May this year and involved a Landcruiser and a Yamaha Quad Cycle and three people. It covers a lot of ground, including three deserts. It is quite informative, and there is a number of photos that have never been on the web before.

Let me know what you think?

Lyn,

Maybe your gg grandfather was a distant relative. This D Carnegie didnt have any children. He was killed by a poison arrow at age 29!

Cheers

Hi Alan,

could be though I believe this David was born in about 1871 in London [mine was born 1829 in Montrose Scotland] so it depends on where his parents are from, generally speaking all Carnegies came from the Montrose region the Earl of South Esk being a Carnegie....Laugh alot..life's too short not to....

Great article, loved reading about the trip, one day I'll get back there. I travelled down the CSR in 1992 and have wanted to get back since then, one day!

Peter,

I think anyone who has been out there wants to get back. It's lovely country. I already am toying with the idea of going out again. Maybe in a couple of years.

Thanks Nick.

I'm quite happy to just have it on the web it think. I know when I was researching the trip, there was so little on the web, all info came from the library or print. If I can save someone else of bit a research, then I'll be happy with that.

Alan,
I have just read the first few pages, but I have to start work in a few minutes. I can't wait to read on. I couldn't find a map of the overall route after a cursory look - is there one? This is the sort of stuff I used to buy magazines for. They are now full of advertorial bumpf. Congratulations on a great trip and website.Bob

Bob,

I haven't put a map on the website. It's a good idea, I'll see if I can put one together over the next few days.
