I posted a little message about an up and coming trip around our great country which can be found at:

http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Topic/80560/Around_Australia_in_two_weeks.aspx?ky=Around+australia+in+two+weeks&p=%2fForum%2fDefault.aspx%3fs%3d1%26ky%3dAround%2baustralia%2bin%2btwo%2bweeks%26pn%3d1

I have now completed this trip, and many thanks to all of you who had positive comments or suggestions from my previous post.
We travelled 13694km over 15 days with one fulll day off in the middle.
Our route, in order of our stops each night are as follows:
Sydney to Adelaide via Melbourne
Ceduna
Fraser Range
Yanchep via Kalgoorlie
Carvarvon
Eighty Mile Beach
Quondong Point 50km north of Broome
Cockburn near Kununurra
Darwin
Attack Creek 50km north of the Three Ways near Tennant Creek
Hughenden
Yeppoon
Ballina then Sydney

It was a brilliant trip and I would do it again in a heart beat. We didn't have any problems, apart from a minor chip in the windscreen. Didn't even use any oil in the trusty Hilux.
For anyone who thinks it can't be done or that it an accident waiting to happen, get out there and have a go. Plan well and enjoy it. What a great country to see by road with some mates.
Cheers, AD.

Well done. I had not seen your original post before the trip, but have now read it. I'm glad to see most people a few exceptions, but less than I would have expected) were supportive of your plan. You had a plan, a reason to do it and had obviously done a fair amount of research.

Now you have successfully and safely completed the plan. How good is that. Many people spend a whole life without even having a grand idea - let alone implementing it.

Now start planning the next trip around. Give yourself a year or two at least to do it well.

Congratulations on the trip. Hope you have lots of kids and grand kids to tell stories about it to.

No kids or the like on the way for me. It was a trip I wanted to do and the months of planning were perfect.
I have my next one already on the planning table which I will be doing by myself.
Thanks though mate. AD

well done guys, really well done, man you did do some miles between stops, i often think that is what i should do so i know where to go when i do get enough time to spend going slow but make the most of a trip ..... trust me i would far rather be with you guys in the passenger seat than with some of the idiots going past us and they are towing vans ...
Did you end up stopping in Darwin ???

Joe

Thanks mate. Yes we did stop in Darwin and actually took a full day off there.
It was a great place and I can't wait to go back. The big war memorial park in the CBD was the highlight for me. Brilliant.

Of course you did it easy ..... You used to live in Parkes ...

You had those years of practicing, boring, long distance driving on the Newell .....

Those miles and that time frame ... with three drivers .... easy run.

Good to see you had an uneventful trip .... and hope you plenty of unofficial sponsors.

Theres them that can .... and theres them that cant ..... clock up the miles nonstop without having ... or causing issues.

I didn't get any fishing in, but I'm no good at it at the best times. I'm much better at eating the results and they were great cooked on the fire with perfect countryside around us and a few tunes. Bloody hard to take I can tell you.

Well done , glad to hear you completed the trip without any hassles...and I was one of the knockers , but , you really did not see much at all...compared to what is out there. We just got back from a 14568km 93 day trip up the centre from Vic and through a few places in W.A and back home to Vic, that we had not seen before and I consider that we did not see much...admittedly we did have 2 weeks in Darwin and some other places 2-3 days...but ..see Australia...you maywell seen some or all of the places you visited...but little else....cheers

Cheers Bruce. I always knew there was no way we would see as much as you could in 6-12 months etc. But that wasn't the point to it in a way.
I'm relatively young for this kind of travel and I certainly saw enough to know where I want to go back to and the areas that I wasn't so impressed in.
I am planning to do a similar trip (although shorter and slower) each year work permitting, so that when it comes to retire, I have an intensive list of places to really explore. I do (very) amateur photography so it will be a good way to reaseach places to visit again.
Thanks for the post, and hopefully I'll see you out there one day.

Congratulations on a successful two week trip
back in August 2003 I did the same thing, my wife stayed home and I went off for a drive around Australia by myself, was a fantastic trip, I covered 17,879Kms in 16 full days, averaged about 1150 kms per day
I just need to get time now to do it again, although this time taking several months or more
