LandCruiser Suspension Upgrade

Hi, I have a LandCruiser FZJ 105R and the shocks are starting to show their age. Any sugestions for replacements? The vehicle is used mainly for day to day transport duties with excursions into the outback every 6 months or so. The suspension is stock. Is a 1-2in spring lift of any benefit when I replace the shocks? I don't usually carry full loads in the vehicle. I have checked out just about every brand on the market and they all claim to be the best, and price doesn't seem to be a real indicator of ability or quality. Any first hand experience or advice appreciated. Cheers, Peter

We recently upgraded our shock and springs for a nissan patrol wagon. Originals also starting to show wear. We put on 'tough dog foam cell and 2inch lift springs through opposite lock cost was $1100. We don't load our vehicle either for our trips which also are only every six months or so but is used everyday over dirt roads for bus run etc.Handling improved 100% We are very happy.Hope this helps.

I had a 100 series & replaced the shocks at 40 000km - sad to say they were no better than the standard Toyota ones. I then fitted a set of King springs standard height. These are approx 20% stiffer than standard & increased ride height about 20 mm & improved handleing as well as load carrying. Best part was they were only $280 from Autobarn plus $50 fitting from the local mechanic.

If I had my time again I would go for King springs & maybe Rancho or Pedders cellular foam shocks.I don't mind the look of the Tough Dog shocks but seem a bit overpriced & the OL springs were way overpriced.

Just my thoughts anyway.
