Caravan Packing Up Routine

G'day to all the learned vanners. When you are travelling on the road and stopping for one or two days do you have any sort of system so that you don't forget to close/lock/put away/hitch up the various components for your van. Would some sort of
check list work where you tick off items, if so what do you have on the list? There seems to be a heap of things when you think about it. I hope to be a new 22ft van owner this weekend so I am trying to be a bit prepared. Thanks in anticipation. Bob

We have a basic list of about 15-20 things which we made after forgetting a couple of things the first couple of times out.
Pretty
well starts with checking fridge on 12 volt, window locks etc to the hitch being locked and the brakes off.
After nearly burning out the brakes i find it comes in handy, especially with a bit of alzheimers coming on!

Previous owners gave us a checklist, which we used to first few times until it was all second nature. It is only when something interrupts you and you get out of routine that something gets forgotten (OOPS, OUCH, BREAKAGE). I may have altered it slightly over the years. Your needs for your rig will be different to
mine - but this works for us. We each have our area of responsibility.
Each Night
Slop bucket out
Gas bottle on
Hang out any washing
Gas switches inside off
Pump switches off
Car locked
Car fridge off
Lock caravan door from inside
Before leaving
camp
Slop bucket in
Any washing in
Fridges on and lunch in car
Gas switches and bottles off
Pump switches and taps off
Hatch down in bathroom
Toilet vent closed and lid down
Shower head wrapped in towel in bowl on towel on floor
Hatch closed in van – insert foam for dusty roads
Windows and curtains closed
Front awning locked down (if opened)
Fridge catches secured
Cupboard locks in
Loose items secured
Floor swept and broom up
Mat wrapped in towel (or in plastic bag and into cargo area if muddy)
Shut water door for dusty, muddy or flooded roads
Remove any chocks and stow
After hitching put leg (jack) up
Move off leveller ramp if used and put away
Check brakes, lights, indicators, bars, safety chains
Happy & Safe Travelling

Motherhen has provided a good list, also the amount of people towing vans with their Wynguard TV Aerials up amazes me, finally make sure after winding the Roll Out Awning up, double
check the Securing Brackets and the Locking Screws, so when your traveling on the road it dosen't come loose off the wall of the van.

Motherhen has come up with a good list. One thing which applies to pop-top owners is the clips that secure the pop-top in the closed position - we've had to stop someone driving along with their roof starting to lift!
Also, there are stories of people forgetting the 240v cable is still attached! I suppose the same applies to the water inlet hose.
