hi guys,

been googling for a few days looking for a good cheap family caravan! came across the website called adoos.com.au

i am really worried why things are so cheap on this website?

does anyone know anything about the website?

you can buy big late model caravans 20-25ft with shower & toilet for a questionable $12000 or less. i really hope my computer is not leaving some of the numbers off the price tags because i have sent numerous enquiries!!!!!

any help would be appreciated with anyone that knows anything about the website or has purchased anything off the website at all!

just a wee bit weary about the price of things on the website!!!! never heard of it before....

cheers

Hi Smithy,

From what I have read the Adoos website is a scam, probably from Cameroon(Africa). Check out http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100301164542AABM5Bs.

What is Adoos?
Adoos is network of local classifieds communities with a different approach. We are both local and global. We aim to provide our users with an easy-to-use service covering all their needs by giving them the most extensive list of classified ads on the web. You can search by keyword, category or region, enabling you to quickly find the product or service you are looking for.

When was it founded?
The company was founded in 2003 by Julian Martinez and is a “for profit” enterprise.

How is Adoos different?
Adoos is FREE for all – both individuals and businesses, whether they post an ad or browse the site. Further, there is no limit to the number of ads you can post.

Who manages Adoos?
The Adoos websites are managed by a small team based in Madrid and Buenos Aires

Caveat emptor! ANY listing on ANY site needs to be carefully considered before opening your wallet....this is the internet folks, go with your gut in many cases :)

The first caravan posting i looked at on this site mentioned a Coromal Caravan - Princeton 2006 model in excellent condition for $8,900 !!!! If that was the case, we'd all be in one tomorrow LOL

Strangely this site has good general information on Avoiding Scams & Fraud - http ://support. a d o o s.com.au/answer/10

My feeling is that the site fails to protect the buyer from an obvious and forseeable source of scams.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

Sounds like the adverts that turn up from time to time in Trading Post and similar; with a photo of a caravan genuinely for sale somewhere else, right down to that rego number - eg a sales yard, but at a fraction of the price. Some story usually given about being overseas and having to quit at a low price. In these cases, they do not have the goods, they only have photos of someone else's van. I think one such advert even turned up here on ExplorOz. Anyone parting with their money after responding to these scam adverts has lost it - and it has happened.

The only way to purchase that is to request Cash On Delivery, and to provide proof of ownership, the Scammers would run the other way.

This often occurs on E Bay australia as well, every time I have enquired the scam is the same. Got divorced, moved to the UK, transfer the money and I'll give you the address to pick it up (or variations thereof) if you are silly enough to be lured you can transfer all your money to Africa and never see it again. You report it to ebay and it is still there 2-3 days later???

Do keep trying though as we have recently picked up a 2007 windsor rapid offroad through trading post that was a true divorce sale and at a $10-15,000 discount to market value, it pays to be patient if you have the time.

There is the reverse scam of this as well. Where you have an item for sale and someone from the UK states they'll buy it. If the price you want is $20K, they'll say they've over paid to the tune of $21.5K, you know the mother in law did it and stuffed up etc etc. You receive a fraudulent PayPal receipt in your inbox that is so good as to be almost indistinguishable from the real thing. The buyer asks for you to send back the overpaid amount of $1,500 which you do and that's it. No money ever materialises in your account and you've paid the mongrel $1500.

Moral of the story. WAIT until the money is in your account before refunding anything!

Cheers Mick

Smithy,

It is an interesting site and I wonder how many of the ads are genuine? Probably quite a few, but there are also a lot that stick out as duds.

There is a current model VW Golf for sale for only $2500!! Tempted to Email the advertiser from 'Southern Australia' and ask if they would move the steering wheel to the right as part of the deal. Also a lot of references to how many 'miles' are on the vehicles and the number of engines that run on 'gasoline'.

I don't suppose any of that means that there aren't some really good genuine deals, but as the website doesn't seem to impose any controls, you would need to go very carefully I think.

Cheers,

Matt.

Amazing how many cars in "Southern Australia" seem to be left hand drive....

Must be different road rules down there

I made enquiries about a nice Rangie going for a song on carsales. After a couple of emailed questions and a bit of side-stepping by the vendor I left well alone but you've got to be on your guard -
