After discovering too late on cup weekend that my 2nd
battery had died and my fridge would not work, I am wondering if anyone uses the National Luna duel
battery monitor, and if so what are the liikes and dislikes. JUst trying to predict the future so the same thing does not happen again.
Cheers
Graeme

Hi Graeme
What type of dual
battery isolator do you have fitted ?
Many monitors are basic voltmeters and some have more features that work with the type of isolator you use. Also I suggest you have your isolator tested when you fit a new
battery as it could be the cause of the problem, isolators do have a cycle life and will need replacing when the contacts start to deteriorate.

Derek,
From memory it's the Redarc 12 v 100amp isolator. Too dark here in Melb at the moment to look properly.

When you have it up and running
test the voltage on the input and output sides of the isolator. This voltage should be identical on a fully charged aux
battery and no more than 0.3V lower on the output side on a discharged
battery.
Notes: This is providing your
battery cables are of a decent size, this
test should be done with the engine running and hopefully with the alternator producing 13.8V or more.
PLEASE NOTE: ABR-SIDEWINDER no longer support, promote or sell Redarc products as we have been asked personally by the managent of Redarc not to do so.

i use one of these
jaycar alternator tester
On my dual cab ute my 2nd batteyr is in the rear tub. I use some velcro and have this fitted to the window in the canopy so it is visible in my rear view mirror.
What i look for is to
check if the
battery isolator is working and the
battery is beign charged when the engine is running. Then i
check before I start the engine to see what state the
battery is in. My triton has a volt meter for the primary
battery allready in the dash.
It's cheap ( about $13 ), simple and reliable. If I'm bored I get my multi meter out and get a more accurate reading.

ps i'm a bit of a gadget nut but i've found over the years that I end up using the ok/possible problem monitoring solutions in preference to the expensive fancy toys.
If I'm travelling about the place I want my gear to work for me, not having me spend my time working for the gear.
I still use the fancy toys but only when needed.
