Battery dilema (not mackintosh computer issue)

I've discovered the battery in my new (s/h) pajero not upto scratch and needs a good charg. The alternator is pumping out 14.75 volts according to my Jaycar multimeter but I would like to remove it from the vehicle and give it a good charge in the garage. I have a newish deepcycle battery that would fit into the vehicle but the question is would it be alright to put it into the vehicle for a week of "mummy going to work" (short runs) or is it beyond the deep cycle capcity?

(nuffin to do with Mackintosh computers)

Have you checked the cells with a hydrometer .... might have a soft one! Better to find out now.

But is it starting the engine easily? If so don't worry as the cells are reasonably even which suggests that you don't have a faulty cell - just a battery which is a a bit down on charge. Are you a bit of a worrier Russell? Seem to have read a lot of posts about problems! LOL

To answer your question, no you should not use a deep cycle battery to start you car. THe battery is u.s. so you will have to get a new one so why not get it now, if the battery is showing 14.75 there is very little hope of improving it with a charger. sorry. Eric.

Also beware of some of those cheap Jaycar Multimetres as I have found they occasionally read over voltage. ie. 14V might actually be 13.2 on a more expensive unit. Not a big drama in most cases, however a few volts here and there can make a difference!
