Where do you install a GME 4400 in Nissan Patrol?

My wife recently brought me a GME TX4400 for my (Oops, our) GUIII. I had the mounting bracket taped to the drivers side of the console for the last trip, but I would like to mount it somewhere permanently. As it is a fairly narrow unit, it looks like there is room to mount it just below the airconditioning controls and above the lighter sockets. Has anyone mounted the unit there and encountered any problems, or perhaps mounted is somewhere else in the car and can make a suggestion?? Thanks.

You've got quite a few options. If you haven;t got any of these you might like to give them a try
- Overhead console
- Dash pod
- Mounted beside the drive line tunnel on either the driver or passengers side

The 4400 is a single DIN slot unit - so if you've got room in your dash you may be able to fit it next to the CD player (if it's a single din slot too).

I have a roof console in my GU for the tx4400.

The tx4400 is a great unit, especially with the additional selectable channels.

The only problem I have is that my line of sight to the panel is awkward and its hard to see. Having longer legs would help :-)Cheers,

G'day Votlip,

Following the passing of an old Sundowner UHF (it was reincarnated once, three years ago, but recently it finally died ) I have stuck a 4400 into my GU. It is above the glovebox, and the readouts are easy enough to spy from the drivers seat; too easy for the passenger - it is directly in front of the pax.

I removed the glovebox, and contorted my hands and arms enough to remove the blind panel. Needless to say, I do not have an airbag in there. Cut a hole, bunged the unit in, and it was all done.

Even thought the unit has the front speaker, I prefer to use a remote speaker, which is located at the bottom of the center radio panel; in front of the gearstick but not interfering with it in any way. This GME remote speaker cost about $ 24 approx 4 years ago, and looks like it was original eqipment.

Good luckRick (S.A.) - ' It is better to travel hopefully than arrive'

I installed a roof console in a 2.8, worked ok for a couple of years. I have now installed a dash pod and it is so much different and more user friendly. I would strongly suggest the dash pod.

Votlip,

I bought a Kenwood 10CD Stacker to replace the standard nissan unit. This left me with a space below the stereo which is just the right size for the UHF. A Big advantage is that it doesn't look like I have one, less security probs.

It also makes it easy to pick up power and run antennae cables.
