The choice is simple, get the Patrol. By 96 the GQ Patrol was 8 years into its model life and all faults had been ironed out. The 4.2 litre naturally aspirated diesel is as tough as nails and will go forever if well maintained. The others have turbocharged diesels which are wonderful, but are not cheap to fix (we're talking thousands). The Patrol has live axles front and rear which makes it far better off road than the other two. In general terms the Patrol is a big, tough, virtually bullet proof beast of a thing. The other two are great vehicles and are popular in
Australia because they are more car-like, but for the purposes you have in mind, they will break long before the Patrol.
