Chadwick William Morgan (born 11 February 1933) is an Australian singer and guitarist known for his vaudeville style of comic country and western songs, his prominent teeth and goofy stage persona. In reference to his first recording he is known as The Sheik of Scrubby Creek.
Chad was born in Wondai, Queensland and raised by his grandparents. He was discovered through Australia's Amateur Hour in Brisbane and started recording with Regal Zonophone in 1952.

I Just happen to stop at Barrow Creek Pub back in 1967 when I was on an outback trip to Tennant Ck, It was here I crossed paths with Chad, he didn't say much....he couldn't, he was as drunk as a skunk.

Chad has toured extensively, including the Slim Dusty Show, the All Star Western Show and his own Chad Morgan Show. He has been prolific in his recorded output and live performances. He was inducted into the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown in January 1987 and awarded an OAM in 2004.
When Gordon Parsons wrote the song "Pub With No Beer, Morgan wrote the words down and wrote one verse of his own. He was dubbed the "clown prince of comedy" by Slim Dusty. He has recorded a duet with John Williamson, "A Country Balladeer". He has had platinum and gold album sales and is one of Australia's most popular country music artists.
Chad Morgan has played all over Australia in all manner of places from tents to trucks to clubs and pubs, festivals, the Sydney Opera House and even a circus. Among many others he has toured with Slim Dusty, Normie Rowe and Mental As Anything.
Artists who have impersonated Morgan in their shows include Col Elliott, John McSweeney and John Williamson.

Chad Morgan is one of the last pioneers of Australian country music and still very active, touring Australia bringing his comical songs to fans of three generations. He is a master of audience control and remains one of the biggest draw cards in the history of Australian country music. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2010 CMAA Awards, the first person to be honoured with this award. He has two sons and one daughter, Chad Morgan junior, Allan Morgan and daughter Janelle Morgan.
Behind the larrikan image and the many stories of heavy drinking sprees, broken marriages and a health problem Chad is a very shy person, and is nobody's fool. A departure from the demon drink now and happily married, it must be time for people to now see the man behind the past image, the quietly spoken well mannered friendly Chad Morgan of the new millennium.

I first saw Chad Morgan perform when he was touring with the Slim Dusty show, at Monto town hall in Queensland, whilst we were on holidays to the east from Central Australia, when I was about 12 (50 years ago). His character and style of performance has remained in my memory ever since. A unique entertainer who is loved my many in the bush.

Thanks for the memory hit Doug.

Fred.

Chad filled the local hall for his show in our town back in the late 50's, when I
was but a pimply teenager, but I remember it well, as artists of any talent rarely
stopped by then. He yodelled, cooeed, squarked his way through a couple of
hours & WE LOVED IT. Not sure his style would turn many heads today.
cheers....oldbaz.

I first heard Chad Morgan on (... wait for it ... ) the Jack Davey Show on 2GB. He did the Sheik From Scrubby Creek and I wondered what was happening.

Quite a few years later I saw him perform in Qld in a small venue, and he had the audience in the palm of his hand. A very funny and talented man. It's great to see he is still getting around, and hopefully also enjoying a better lifestyle now.

Good luck to you Chad, and thanks again Doug. You make Sundays special for us all.

First saw Chad at the Sydney Town Hall in 1956 when I was 11 years old. I badgered my parents to take me to the show which also featured Reg Lindsay, Rick and Thel Carey and Judy Stone.
It was a great show and have been a fan of Australian Country music ever since.
I remember seeing SLim Dusty at Julia Creek in 1966 and was very suprised when he became my neighbour in St Ives many years later.
Now living in NSW country Cooyal we recently had a neighbour marry his sweetheart. The theme was the Bobba Wobba wedding by Chad Morgan and the groom wore shorts and a blue singlet!!!
Thanks Doug
