gu cracked rims

Further to my earlier post re getting a credit instead of accepting dx model replacements steel rims, after talking to nissan and the dealer i am advised that when you report cracked rims the dealer will automatically only replace your rims with dx type rims.
however if you ring nissan first nissan at their discretian can organise a credit against the cost of alloys.

note once you let the dealer swap the rims nissan refuse to extend the offer above as the new rims are secondhand. The moral is dont get caught if you would prefer alloys ring nissan first.the bloke to talk to is LANCE at nissan customer service in melbourne.in my experience the dealer wont even tell you this is possible.

Been trying to search out when this problem arose. Did these cracks start with the series 1 GU, or are confined to later series?

I have a series 1 2.8tdi GU with steel rims and a spare set of steel rims from a series 2. I have HTs on the early set which I use strictly for highway travelling and BFG ATs on the other set of rims for off road work. The HTs have done about 70000kms and the ATs have done a shade over 25000kms. I have not experienced a problem with either set of rims. Am I just lucky or is this problems yet another urban myth?

All the Nissan Rims that are in this shape are prone to cracking.

Utes cracked early and got the uprated rims (next pick) the new steel of heavy duty rims are on the bottom row.

All GU's except utes and DX wide Wheel Pack get the Alloys from mid Series III on wards.
