Fly Screens for L300 Van

Submitted: Monday, Nov 03, 2003 at 07:18

AdamMC

Hi,
I was just after a bit of advice...

At present I am decking out our Mitsubishi L300 4wd van for a trip around Oz.
We were hoping to find a way to put some flyscreens on the windows.

Does anyone know of how we might achieve this, or know of a company who could custom build some for us ?

We are located in Sunbury, Victoria

Many thanks in advance

Autopro sell Window Sox for the later model vehicles for around $50 a pair.

We took fibreglass mesh/flywire and stitched them into a cover with a sowing machine to fit over the doors of the Patrol. Cost was about $5 each. You can then wind the window down for fresh air and keep the mozzies out. Too easy!!

A few possibilities.... depends on how professional you need to be. Make up correct size pieces of flywire [plastic now] and use velcro stick on thingies. Otherwise... if you want to get a bit more agricultural. Make up standard frames and wire as from a hardware store and tech screw on the outside..... been done before. Removes with a cordless drill easily but leaves little holes that need treating to stop rust.

Anyway mate..... the blowies and mossies up north won't fit through ya windas! So don't worry!Royce www.funshow.com.au

Was at a Home Ideas center on the weekend and saw these
Magnetic Insect screens
Either have them made up or do it yourself easy done, with strip magnets and std fly mesh, will leave no holes in the vehicle!!!!
Hope this helps

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the tip ;)

Do you sew the magnetic strip inside a hem or sew through the magnetic strip to keep it on the outside ?

Inside the hem is usually enough so it can still stick to the side of the vehicle, try a bit before you go ahead with it. It worked for me ok.
