Shaun,

If you have a caravan or motor home, or something you can just pull over and stay overnight, Camps book is good but if you have a tent, soft or hard floor camper or wind up type Jayco style camper, I reckon the "Camping Around Australia" book is better. It provides proper camp areas like National Parks and Forestry type camp areas also town common type free camps. Also included is short note about the camp ground, both free and paid type camps are in the book. Roadside areas are not listed. One thing that is a bit disappointing about "Camping Around Australia" book is that there are no GPS points for camp grounds although there are good written directions and I find the map scale is a little small for my aging eyes.. Hope this helps, Michael

Hi Michael

I haven't seen Camping Around Australia, but i am interested in your comparison. However Camps Australia Wide lists many overnight possibilities from roadside rest areas to national parks and also lists low cost caravan parks (below $22 at time of print for Camps 5). For WA and NT, the Jan Holland series is more comprehensive, but sometimes, as with all publications, camping grounds can be closed to campers when you get there.

MH ,,

Camping Around Australia is probably not as comprehensive as Camps but is probably more for longer stays than Camps hence my description. May be both books would be of value, depending on the type of stay..

regards Michael

We lived on the camps 4 and 5 when we travelled oz. We were in a softfloor camper and found it great. especially if you have the camps snap book as well.
I guess camps 5 will be out on sale really cheap over the next month lol.

I have both books, we prefer the Camps Australia book hard cover with photos, I have not had many issues only in Mildura looking for horse shoe bend? Ended up paying for a caravan park. (Cheaper than finding a lawyer) We have a caravan so Michael could be correct for the camping around Australia. So buy camps 5 now cheap and Camping around Australia and connection to the internet and you wont go wrong?

Land Rover Club of ACT developed an application called Camp Ground Corner and although not as comprehensive as the two mentioned is quite useful. It covers all of Australia.
Camp Ground Corner
It may have an issue in the that the map display driver it uses does not seem to be supported by Adobe any more.

Yes, new editions of Camps Australia Wide come out annually in the Feb-March timeframe. We always carry stock of this, along with all the other good titles. We are kept informed by the publishers and always carry the latest editions/products so keep an eye on the newsletters we send every 2nd Thursday as we will always include mention of new editons/releases through that mechanism, or check your Members Home Page for latest Shop products, or check the Shop Blog page. This week's newsletter will actually be featuring loads of new products that have just come in.

Thanks, Michelle

We bought the spiral-bound combined photo book earlier this year and found the pages particularly frail compared with our Camps 3 edition. The old book was still intact after four years whereas the new one is falling apart after very little use.

I hope the publishers print it on a more durable grade of paper to justify the high price.
