S.A rego gone up again!!

I can't beleive it. I've had my truck for less than a year now and not long after I bought it, I had to re register it. Now being a (commercial vehicle) HJ47 I undersand that it's a little more expensive than a private vehicle to register. I almost collapsed when I saw the renewal form for the first time, 775 dollars for a full year! Just to add insult to injury I just recieved another renewal as I only register in six month intervals mostly. Well whaddayaknow it's gone up again to eight hundred dollars for full year. Why should a vehicle that's being used solely as a recreational vehicle be subjected to such costs? There should be a way of proving that the vehicle is privately used to reduce these exhorbitant bills for the little battlers who just want a vehicle to camp/travel with. If there is a way I and many more I'm sure would like to know.

Sounds like SA is catching up to NSW, my Hilux's were around $800 a year to register, you have to get a pink slip, then a green slip then take all your paperwork to re-register...not to metion all the crap invovled in shopping around for the greenslip (CTP). And you have to register for 12 months at a time,only dealers get the joy of 3, 6 or 9 month intervals. I like the idea of being able to register for 6 month intervals, it breaks the cost up a bit. Can I get a 6 monthly when I reregister my 80 series in SA at Christmas or is it just for commercial vehicles?

I would check with Transport SA as that does not sound right.

My old G60 is also classed as a ute( I argued the point with Transport SA and lost) and it is therefor registered as a commercial vehicle. I do receive a discount as I am on a pension but with an overall saving of 40%, it would bring full registration to $540 per year. Both my other road cars are $514 each per year. I am going to rationalise my vehicles shortly and go back to one as I cannot afford these silly rego costs.

My HJ47 is a troop carrier and they class it as a panel van but on the manufacturers plates it is called a bus (11 seater). Maybe I should let them think it's a panel van because I'm sure the rego would be more for a bus!!

My mate has a FJ47 Troopy same as yours and his rego is just a tad over $500. As I said before go back to them and get it altered. I am also aware that if you do certain modifications you can convert it to a camper and then rego is even less than a normal vehicle. Check it out!!

what Joe said is correct. Transport S.A. (if that is what they are still called this week) does allow 3, 6, 9 and of course 12 months registration. Naturally it is cheaper to register for twelve months, each of the 3,6 and 9 doesn't equate to 25, 50 and 75% of twelve months. Also there is seasonal registration, where there is a minimum requirement to have a vehicle registered for a minimum of 3 months in every 12. This was realy designed for farmers with their seasonal use farming implemements (seaders, headers, haybalers etc) however is available to all users. You must advise TSA that you are only registering for 3 or 6 months as seasonal rego. I also use this method for my boat trailer as I only use the boat between Novemeber and April.

Think yourself lucky you don't live in the ACT and own a DX model GU. $ 1167.00 last year, and $1800+ this year. Beat that.

Thanks to Nissan for importing them as a commercial to get the big numbers of wagons into the country.

I move around a bit, from contract to contract and it boggles the imagination why they NEED to charge this much for registration, given that they now make you pay extra to use highways, such as the tullamarine and such. I find that the whole taxation system is unfair.......

But then again, you should feel lucky about operating a car over here compared to my family in the UK. Their 2-door GR patrol costs 1800 POUNDS per year to register, that's over 4000 Dollars!

I thought WA was sa bit stiff - but not now - $550.00 (business) for 12 months /98 diesel Patrol. More importantly NO Road/bridge Tolls in WA.
I was shocked driving around NSW & Vic. What a con!
