Hi All,

Well after nearly a year of on again, off again work I've finally published our family website. Its only about 80% complete but...Please feel free to go and have a look and let me know if you have any trouble viewing it as I've only been able to test it in a couple of browsers.

Great site Melissa,

One question though is how did you do the maps and tracks? I am wanting to do that on my site, but don't have the knowledge, and possibly skills nor technology to do it.Just Do It!

Hi Glenn,

I developed the website almost entirely using MS FrontPage. The maps/tracks I first created using a combination of MS Paint and Paintshop Pro (start with a graphic "borrowed" off the internet or scanned image, then modify). Then in FP it is simply a matter of inserting the pic and creating a picture hotspot and hyperlink. I know FP has its critics but for people like me (and you) who don't know a thing about code and programming language it is very easy. The only problem I had with FP was that Bigpond don't support FP extensions so some dynamic components don't work. In my case it only affected the hit counter so instead I used some CGI script that Bigpond provide.

Hope this helps. No doubt someone else on this forum will know of another way.

Hi Melissa,

I too use FrontPage and find it easy to use, having no coding experience. Do you mind if I "borrow" your map and have a play with MS Paint?Just Do It!

Glenn,

Feel free. I've also got a couple of versions on the base map without the tracks on it which might save you having to delete my tracks before you put your own on there. Let me know if you would like me to email them to you.

Melissa,

What a great job, good info, well laid out, and I like the colours. Well done!

With info on trip reports, equipment reviews, check lists, travel tips, links, all you need now is a discussion forum and you could be on to something :-)

Cheers,
Stuart

Nice site Melissa.

Not sure if its our computer or the site but when i tried to look at the treks by state (the link in the little story not on the side) it wouldnt load up but had no troubles on the side link.
Then when i got there tried to load up NSW and ACT and it said that theres was a browser problem.

Other than that had no hassles.
And i went to eirlie beach long island and hamiltin island 3 years back with a mate and loved it its beautiful up there.

Thanks for the feedback Guy. Looks like I need to fix the link to Travels by State. I haven't yet published the pages on NSW, ACT, and some of SA yet because they aren't complete. That's why you got the error message. Hoping to have them up in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, Airlie is a nice spot. I saw a lot of changes growing up there and not all for the better but it'll probably always be home in my heart no matter how long I live away from there.

Good read Melissa. Problem is now you have to keep it up to date.

On the trip report for Karijini there is a bit of confusion in the area where you are either at Kumerina or Newman. It sounds initially like you got a room at Kumerina because of the wet but in the next paragraph it sounds like you went straight to Newman?

Maybe I misread it but ??

Very good setup though.

Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, we were forced to stay at Kumerina on a previous trips after we encountered a desert storm and flash flooding. On this trip (that is the one you were reading about) we stayed at Newman. I've just re-read the trip report through a visitors eyes though and can see why you might have been confused. I guess I need to do a bit of editing.

Thanks Eskimo! Your mate sounds like a guy we had on the Cape Yok trip. Just about every meal consisted of canned braised steak and onions (or similar), followed by desert of canned creamed rice. Didn't seem to faze him one bit that the rest of us were eating like royalty on roast dinners and such. Still, gave the rest of us plenty of laughs!
