Well said Mike. Ray, remember too that normal conditions can become undriveable conditions in a few hours. the roads are just not suited to rain. We came off perfect roads late one night and woke up to closed roads the next day.

Spot on, In July last year, we were among the first to go up the Birdsville track after it had been closed for 4 days due to torrential rain. Boy that was exciting! At one point, we came across a large truck carrying donkeys and camels amongst other things, stopped and camped in the middle of the road, where he had been stuck for 4 days. We also had to stop on the road to eat and for comfort breaks. (Not pleasant for my wife!) We could not recognise the track as the same one we had done 2 years previously, which was smooth dry and dusty. Always check road conditions before you take off.
