Hi, I've just joined and thought this may help other Hilux owners. The vulcanised section of the vibration damper on the transfer case breaks after a while and Toyota want $440 for the whole part (large lump of steel included). I found a replacement vulcanised part for $132 from Burson Auto Parts. It is a Mackay Rubber part #A5801 and fits exactly. You need to do a bit of grunt work to get the old one out, drilling out 4 spot welds and replacing them with steel rivets but it saves a whack. I've seen that one of the older archived threads on the site had a response to remove the part and throw it away. DO NOT DO THIS unless you intend throwing the vehicle away soon or plan on a major gearbox or transfer case rebuild. The harmonic vibrations will eventually destroy the seals and mountings.
Cheers Grant

Thanks for that info Grant. I did wonder what that lump of metal was for and mine has broken away from the vulcanised section. Where is Burson Auto Parts?

Hi Scooby, Bursons seem to be an East Coast company but the part is made by Mackay Rubber and I've just downloaded this from their web page.

Western Australia:

Facsimile +61 8 9457 3382

I checked and the part comes up easily if you enter the part # A5801.

Hope this helps, cheers. Grant
