Submitted: Wednesday, Mar 20, 2002 at 00:00

Andrew

I am looking at travelling the canning stock route next year with a 1 year old. Will probaly go with a tagalong tour for safety. Has anybody had any experience travelling with a child this young or know any suitable tagalong operators ?

My children are all adults now so I'm a little out of touch, but they were all travelling and camping before birth ! I did a trip with some Subaru friends to the Pilbara/Rudal R NP area who had a pre walking child and they had no problems, breast feeding was a bonus. A large soft ground sheet for child and maybe a small fly proof 'beach type tent' would be handy. When moving camp the fire was stoked up and all rubbish was burnt including nappies, take the tins glass with you. Eric and Ronele Gard are the Canning S R experts, they have published and also run tagalong tours to suit client needs. Hope this helps - Colin
PS - In Aug last year we 'did' the lower CSR (3 Subarus and 2 Nissans) from Jigalong to Durba, Calvert Ra to Well 5, Carnarvon Ra and out through Neds Cr Station. Fantastic trip over 3 weeks, take time to seek out the Aboriginal 'art' and petroglyphs.

Andrew,

Try Outbacktagalong Tours Albury NSW. Their web address is www.outbacktagalong.com.au/

My wife, 5 yr old daughter and self did a 28 day transcontinent crossing with them last year. Tony and Brenda
do Canning trips, Kimberley, transcontinent crossings, victorian high country, Cape York etc.

They are wonderful leaders and their trips are fantastic.

Have a look at my site to read about our adventures. www.hotkey.net.au/~gcwright

Enjoy your trip. A tagalong is definitely the way to go

Good luck
