buy or rental 4wd

Bart and Nina

Hi,

We intend to explore the outback between april and juni this year (9 weeks in total). Should we buy a second hand car or rent one ? We only found rental compenies on the internet that are quite expensive because they rent new 4wd and this is not exactly necessary for us. Could you give us some ideas where to look for rentals (one-way)or second-hand vehicles ? We start in Melbourne or Adelaide and end the trip in Perth or Broome.

Txs.

Nina and Bart from Belgium.

G'day - there are a number of cheaper vehicles sales outlets in Melb and Adelaide that deal in SH 4WDs. Before you buy one get an independent vehicle check done (try the local Auto Assn). Try accessing vehicle advertisements via Trading Post newspaper (weekly in most areas). Agree that hiring might be a bit expensive. Let me know if you are having trouble locating local advertisements for vehicles.
I drive a 1993 Nissan Patrol - dual fuel - planning a major Year of the Outback event in Aug this year - Melbourne to Gulf of Carpenteria following the Burke and Wills exploration route.
