Hi, I used the next model up, the 7000, when I was a motorbike courier. I can definitely vouch for their ruggedness and reliability. They have a full metal chassis that protects the internals. They also handle water well. Recommended! Bill

I've got a GME 6000. No problems at all with it. However, do get a 2nd battery. The standard battery is 700mVA, but purchase the 1000mVA, as it lasts much much longer.
Please keep in mind the 7000 is a commercial unit, and I believe an ACA licence is required.

If you want selcall then there are no other options, but if you don't need selcall then the Icom's might be worth considering, but I wouldn't recommend a Uniden.
