Hey Ron, I have a Waeco fridge, but don't have any interferance problems, but I have had interference on car stereos before (not with the fridge though). The remedy is to fit a noise filter in the positive line to the radio. I think they are $5-$10 from Tandy/Dick Smith etc.

Ron, I run 27meg CB and UHF radios. I have a 70 litre Waeco fridge running at -6C most of the time (ie non-stop) and have no interference problems at all.

G'day Ron,

Installation instructions for an HF usually say keep the data cable well away from the power cable.

Odds on therefore that your fridge power supply is near the HF data cable somewhere.

The other thing that upsets HF is flouro lights - turn them off when transmitting.

Ron, another thing to mention is the earth? Does it run back to the battery, or is it onto the body somewhere? If it is onto the body, odds on there will be corrosion or it will be loose. I have found the only sure way to eliminate ground loop noise in radio's is to ensure (1)Continuous unbroken power wire from battery to power socket (with inline filter if all else fails) & (2)Continuous earth wire back to the battery. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I have been told by an automotive electrician, that in a 12v negative earth system, power exits the battery from the negative side and returns via the positive side to complete the loop. Thus the Earth is the most important part that is often overlooked. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore information Cheers.

Interfernece is a common problem with the lower bands(i.e.HF)Its usally caused by the engine or other electical devices. An inline filter should fix the problem otherwise its likly your cables are to close to one another

Thank for the info guys but the problem lies with the fridges(I have a 52 litre and 37litre) as I have plugged them into my mates car,which has all the u beaut filters etc. as he is an amateur operator and the noise is the same through his hf radio.
The wiring for my fridge is on the left hand side from aux. battery and radio on right hand from main battery.All radio cables are well away from each other.
Apparrantly the noise is generated from the compressor motor, as part of the cycle produces current, so I have been told. How to overcome it I don't know apart from turning the fridge off when using the radio and then probably forgetting to turn the fridge back on.
If anyone can solve the problem I would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a Codan 9323 and an EvaKool 70 litre fridge (same danfoss compressor) and I haven't noticed any noise from the fridge, but if there was any I may have just thought it was atmospheric conditions. I'll make a point to listen out any noise when the compressor is running in future and let you know if I find anything.
