Tirfor type winch

G'day,
I was looking at getting a tirfor style winch and was wondering which were best for both price and reliability. I've heard big haul are good both for price and performance? Any suggestions? I'm trying to convince the missus I need one under the Christmas tree.

G'day Justin, arb have a magnum hand winch, it is $395 rrp. I think its the same as the tirfor T516 but half the price. I sore them being demoed at the melb. 4x4 show and thought they looked the goods. Hope this helps. Just a little puddle we found down in Gembrook

Pretty sure that the Magnum is the same winch as the big haul. Has the same continuous sloping edge anyway. The tirfor is stepped along the same side. You should be able to haggle to $370. I just did in WA.

I have had most dealings with Kerry Ling the service manager.
I have had the following fitted to my 78 series troopy, air lockers fitted front and rear with compressor obviously, duel batteries, bull bar with Warn 9500 winch and roof rack.

The fit up was done on time and the workmanship is so far excellent.
All wiring etc was done in a very tradesman like manner, A frieind of mine who is an auto elec looked at it and also commented on the standard of workmanship and fit up.

I felt that they treated me well at all times with good no bull bleep advice and when I have returned to buy other items like Magnum winch and other recovery gear they have always asked about the other equipment they fitted and if I was happy with the work as well as looking after me with good prices.
In fact Kerry asked me last week to bring the troopy back as he wanted to do a follow up inspection on all the gear fitted.

No complaints from me with them, And yes I would recommend them based on my experience.

I picked up a Black Rat, $365 works well but like all of them, HARD WORK.
Only used it one time so far but it was worth it's weight (about 23kg) in gold

Don't mess with imitations get a real tirfor.

The T532 will pull everything out.

We've owned a Tuff Pull for years and its been great. Don't know if you can still get 'em or if they trade under that name but at the time, that's what TJM were selling.

I have a Tuff Pull as well, and it has certainly paid for it's self a few times.

It only failed to work once, when I was pulling stumps in a very dry, dusty paddock and the cable started to slip. Poured a litre of water into the body of the winch and was back in the game.

Make sure you get a winch extension strap though. A few times I have been stuck and the only good anchor was about 25m away, and the cable only 20m long.
