Diamantina Nat Park Qld

Interested in feedback from anyone who has been here in the last 2-3 years. Would we be ok taking a (proper) off-road van into there via Windorah? What about from there to Boulia? Would be in May.

Wendy,
We were there in May last year. I towed a Golf ATV 16 ft full sized caravan, & our mate took an Aussie swag. We came in from the north - Old Cork Homestead - and went to Boulia from there. No problems. The road is slow in patches. Coming in from the north, you pass through some spectacular scenery. There's a gate a few miles(that dates me!)a few miles from Cork that says private property, but its OK to traverse. Visit the Ranger station on the way in for advice on the best camping spot at the time.
You can fax Diamantina Lakes NP on 07 4657 3977. They faxed me details and a mud map.
Recommend Booklet "Camping in Queensland" 6th edition $6.95 from bookshops & National parks.

My husband is there at the moment - taking some friends up for a recce, we haven't been for a while. He should be back Friday and I will give you a report then - particularly on the access roads. He has gone in via Bedourie and coming back down the Diamantina River to Beetoota and back to Birdsville.
