Sat phone with Telstra 3G sim

I have just bought an Iridium 9505a and put my 3G post paid sim in it. It registers no worries at all but i can't call out on it. I can send text msgs from it and it will receive text and voice calls. I have had international roaming activated last week (or at least they said it was). Any ideas?..............

Check with Telstra sometimes it can take a week or so for activation to take effect.

try calling your home number with a +61 and area code.

Eg if your home number is 9999 9999 and you are in sydney, Dial +61299999999

Thanks both of you, but i have checked with Telstra and International roaming is activated and i have tried all dialling prefixes. The thing i don't understand is i can text from it by dialling the normal number without any international prefixes (mobile and landline). So frustrating, but at least i have got a few weeks to sort it before we go away.

Try asking Telstra to activate 1900 numbers too. That may affect it.

Yeah thanks, i was going to ring Telstra (again) to check if some sort of call barring is activated. I have checked on my phone and it is all deactivated, but maybe it is something on the Telstra network. From what i can gather on the net what i am trying to do still works. Try again tomorrow.

This is how I do it. You have your sim on global roaming, place it in sat phone and turn on. You need to be outside of a building to connect with satellite, then press 0 and hold until + appears. Then enter the number you are calling starting with 61 you leave out the 0 from the state prefix, then enter the prefix number and the rest of your number. For example if you are calling a land line number in NSW which is 02 99999999, you would need to dial +61299999999, and for mobile number it is the same that is - do the + thing then 61 and just leave out the 0 at the start of the mobile number. Hope this works for you.

Sounds like no international activation to me if it can receive calls.

Get them to try it again and or borrow a sim.

I have confirmed with Telstra that International roaming is definitely turned on. I can't call 1900 numbers though and i will get Telstra to enable this. I get the same error message as on the sat phone. I think this is the problem.
