Axel, i dont know about 12V fans but i found the fridge performed much better with insulated cover.
You can get it at Discount camping.com.au
I use my 50L chescold in North West WA and it gets pretty hot up here. What i found is that if i precol it before going on a trip it maintains temperature by running on 12V. I am generaly happy with it. My chescold doesn't like particular brand of generators (honda 1.0 ui)and it runs lot better on gas.I dont think it has been designed to operate as a freezer as a whole.
Cheers

Yes _ I supplied some info about the mods I did to my Sadec 3 way frig.
1. added a PC fan - hot wired into the 12v terminal and attached to condenser
2. covered frig in self adhesive aluminium foil with 3mm sponge - available from Clarke Rubber
3. ran heavy wire direct from battery and used a decent plug (not cig lighter)
The improvement was amazing - the element now frosts up on 12v (tested on 3 week trip down Sth CSR last August)
