cruisers new 4200 efi turbo

i've recently seen a number of cruisers getting around displaying 4200 efi turbo, i've tried to find out information on kw outputs, with no luck. at a guess i would imagine it to be between 180-200 kw, considering the standard petrol engine develops around 150. so if it does produce that much power, does it mean nissan are falsly advertising their new 185kw 4.8 as the truck with the most power? i hope not as i am a proud patrol owner.

I may stand corrected here, but as far as I knew Toyota had a 4500 petrol (165kw), a 4200 diesel (96kw) and a 4200 turbo intercooled diesel (151kw). The only 4200 efi turbo I could think of is an early 80 series 4200efi petrol with an aftermarket turbo. I think there are aftermarket turbos for the 4500 petrol also, but as far as I'm aware Toyota only did a factory turbo for the diesel.

I believe the new '78 series Crusiers now have an option of a 4.2 turbo diesel (122kw), and they display Di-TURBO 4200EFI stickers.

thanks guys, they were the only options that i thought were available until i saw and heard one. to start with the sound it made was certainly a petrol motor(turbo whistle), and secondly turbo diesels are just called direct injection(di), and finally the term efi is for petrol motors only, i have seen this signage on around a dozen cruisers and they have all been brand new, being a patrol man i couldnt tell you what series or model they are though.

look in this months (may 02) austalian 4x4 monthly on page 54 where you will see a 78 series troopie (diesel) with a badge "Di-TURBO-4200EFI)

The 4.2 factory turbo in the new model troopie is the same donk used in the TD 100 Series LC. The article Sean was referring to gives the power output at 122kW@3400rpm.

As stated the engine is the same as the one in the 100 Series without the intercooler. The EFI comes from the fact that the injection pump is electronically controlled, ie. there is an engine ECU much like the 3l TD Patrol. Andreas
