Supercharge Batteries - any users?

Morning all,

Been looking @ batteries and this one looks suitable.

Q: Has anyone used Supercharge MF Gold batteries, in particular the MF31-930? Its a Calcium-Calcium type [I will be using a West ABC charger with it].So far I have determined they are made in the Philipines by Ramcar[US], but have not been able to find detailed manufacturers info on them ie: charging curves,temperature limits etc. Any help here would be appreciated.

I cant help with that particular battery, but I have Supercharge Battery in my Pajero , and I would have no problems using them again.

I had the first one for nearly 6 years , just put a new one in about 6 months ago.

Calcium-Calcium batteries are maintenance-free, but will charge slowly from Alternators designed for conventional batteries (14.4 volts).

For a starting battery you may not notice slow since a starting use less than 1 amphour out of a 100amphour battery.

Wok, the MF31-930 is a Cranking battery, and according to the battery manufacturer is designed to be used as a Cranking battery - not as a Deep Cycle battery running a fridge etc.

As Mike has said Calcium batteries do charge slowly from an alternator and it's more than probable that the alternator will be the major charging source when your driving in the bush away, from 240v.

These batteries would be good as Cranking batteries due to their massive CCA capacity, however as a 'storage' battery would not be the first choice as a storage battery has to be able to be recharged very quickly and able to be fully charged, not only 70% to 80% charged as is what will happen with an alternator, this matter has been done to death on every 4wd forum and allways with the same result.

Get an AGM Deep Cycle battery and you will have no problems, you can't recreate the wheel by using a Crank battery as a Storage battery.

At this point in time I cannot provide the required/preferred float voltage for AGM type @ the ambient temperatures that I intend to use the batteries.

Possibly of no relevance to your particular model enquiry, but I did use Supercharge conventional batteries some years ago. i never had any problems, but did notice they need more than normal amounts of top up water. in all likelihood they have improved in this regards since then.

Sorry nothing on that particular battery.

I have a Supercharge battery in the Jack. As I only have the one battery, I use a 720CCA 190Ah, I run my fridge almost 24/7 and when camping i use lights, 12v ovens etc. The battery has only left me down once, when I went away for a week (went to qld not in the jack) and left the fridge in the 4wd. Jump pack and started first go (So totally my own fault).

Been over the moon with the performance.

I have 2 Supercharge Gold batts in my Camper Trailer (not sure of their model type etc). I have them linked in parralel with no isolator. They are maintainence free wet cell and I have a 3 stage charger permanently mounted. I've had them for about 8+ months or so and have had no worries.
I use the Yammie genset to re-charge when camping (only if needed) and plug into household power at home. After a recent trip, I backed the camper into the garage, hooked up the power and noticed that the charger went straight onto FLOAT; meaning (to me anyway) that the alternator had provided enough top up on the way home (a few hours driving) to get all 4 batteries up to top condition. I say this in the assumption that the 2 batteries in the Patrol would be likely to get the lion's share of the power from the alternator, as the wires to the camper aren't as heavy duty as they probably could be.....I'm using a NARVA 12 pin plug (as supplied as standard by Ultimate Campers), so the cable is limited to the size of the 5 larger diameter pins in that coupling. If I was terribly worried about it I would change to an Anderson Plug set-up, but seems there is no need.

i have also used supercharge batterys in the past and currently run a 530cca in a commodore at the moment(18 mths old) and i got 2 golds for my mates 80 series( 1 crank/1 fridge etc) 2yrs and counting with no problems Paul
