Mal, I just read it and it sounds like it works. Will try it in our 1HZ engine.
Thanks for the info link. Ian

Not 2 stroke oil but I drop a dollop of Flashlube for diesels in the tank at every fill and also a litre of vegie oil every now and then. Works a treat.....but I have an old uncomplicated diesel engine. Engine runs well with 400K+ on the clock

just be carefull with the vegi oil ( or it may be canola oil - cant remember which now ) as it can destroy seals .... even destroys viton ....

At the amount they recomend to ad to a tank of fuel is so small cant see it being a problem. Ive seen people ad a hell of a lot more diesel fuel adatives to there tanks than that. That amount of 2stroke oil wouldnt even smoke.

I saw a guy adding 2-stroke to his Landrover td5 tonight just after he filled with diesel.

I read the Patrol4x4 thread, also the comments by the advocate in the states (who is a lawyer and really knows what he is talking about).

They say to make sure it is a "mineral" oil, possible semi-synthetic, but keep away from fully synthetic oils. As you all know "oils ain't oils sol".

Last week I bought a litre of Castrol 2T Self Mix and dropped it in my tanks to try it out (in the recommended ratio of 1:200). Was it quiter? Possibly. Better fuel consumption? Never had the chance to find out. I'll be back on the road next week with a good chance of testing out all these theories.

I use 2 stroke in my desiel as it is meant to lubricate than get burnt with low deposits.
Better than canola.
I have read in the past that most additives for petrol engines have as a top end lubricant synthetic two stroke.
If a desiel can run on bio why not a small amount of 2 stroke which is meant to burn.

hi
when i was much younger 35yrs ago dad's cousin
who was i bit of a racing /hoon head fanatic use to pour a quantity of what he called racing oil, it was red, into his petrol tank despite the make of vehicle and claimed it was good for the engine and believe me he use to drive harder and faster than anyone i have known
it gave off that familar racing car odour that one experienced at claremont speedway etc so guess this topic above re 2 stroke is just another version and is nothing new

Slightly of the subject but I have been running my 80ser L/C LPG powered with 2 stroke oil rather than Flashlube for quite a number of years now and it still runs very sweet.

hi
i read the rather long link blog last night and these,

and dont see why or how using 2 stroke could be detrimental in any way as has been mentioned 2 stroke is designed to burn
im going to try it in my golf diesel which has a high pressure common rail fuel system
i also see it as a cheap alternative and good for the motor instead of flashlube in lpg run engines

Hi All
For many years I ran a Golf diesel on aviation kero (drains from aircraft fuel tanks), mixed with 50 to 1 super outboard oil no problems apart from less economy but the fuel was free so all I had to pay for was the oil very cheap runnning.
Regards
Ted

hi
TED G
interesting but your old golf diesel would have had a conventional fuel pump system where as mine is the common rail h/pressure and after reading the test report mentioned
im going to urr on the side of caution until further conclusive evidence/ benefits are produced in favour of 2 stroke oil
( if it aint broke dont fix it )

I have been following this debate with great interest. There is now a scientific test result produced which shows:

7) Super Tech Outboard 2-Cycle TC-W3 Engine Oil
Unconventional
(Not ULSD compliant, may damage 2007 or newer systems)
HFRR 474, 162 micron improvement
200:1 ratio
16.64 oz/tank
$1.09/tank

Don't like that bit .... MAY DAMAGE 2007 or later !!

Read the full results of the test here.

The best performing additive from these tests was "Opti-Lube XPD". Already there are people in Oz wanting to use it - including me (at least until I did some more research.

Follow up led me to this (for this product):

WARNING.
• HARMFUL IF INHALED.
• CAUSES EYE IRRITATION.
• CAUSES SKIN IRRITATION.
• HARMFUL IF ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN.
• COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID.
• CONTAINS COMPONENTS WHICH MAY CAUSE CANCER.
• MAY CAUSE CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS.

and it may need "notification" if sold in Australia.

The full report is here.

hi malcolm

read the test report with great interest re: super tech outboard 2 cycle -2 -tc-w3 eng oil results but
are all 2 stroke oils made to the same specification as this one above or are there differences apart from mineral and synthetic standards with them

Yes Barry there are 2 types of 2stroke oil one for air cooled motors ( run hot) . One for water cooled 2 stroke ( runs cooler ). I have air cooled & water cooled out boards & use diferent oils for each one.

This is an interesting topic.
The only 2 stroke oil I have at home at present is for lawn mower/chain saw (which I buy in 5 litre container).
It says on the container:
API - TA, TB, JASO:FB
"A two stroke motor oil designed for 2 stroke lawn mower engines and other small 2 stroke air cooled engines. Diluted with a high flashpoint solvent to facilitate easy mixing with petrol"

Does anyone know if this would be OK to try in an older diesel (Toyota 12HT turbo) in the ration 1:200.

Thanks for any comments

Wamuranman

from what I have read JASO : Fx is OK the higher the 2nd letter the better e.g. C, D.

I've got a 2H motor in my old Sahara and I've put in Castrol 2T Self Mix. I couldn't find a JASO (or any) rating on the label.

The last bottle of 2 stroke oil I bought was "Mobil 2 Stroke Oil" it has a classification of JASO FD. Recommended for land based air cooled 2 stroke engines.
