Description of Enngonia
Enngonia is located around 100kms north of
Bourke and 40kms from the
Queensland border. It is similar in stature to Barringun, in that it was a centre of activity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when the properties in the area were labour intensive and when transportation was by horse and bullock. Today there is a police station, a school, and a pub with a caravan park. Some of the highlights of this interesting town are the Enngonia Races held annually in September and the unmarked grave of Captain Starlight (approximately 35kms west of the town).
