Description of Atitjere
Atitjere, also known as Harts Range or Hart Range has a population of approximately 219 residents. The region of Atitjere and outstations is officially known as Arltarlpilta. In contrast to other Aboriginal towns and the urban camps, the permanent population of Atitjere includethe Eastern Aranda. Other people from the Alyawarra and Anmatjere District who have associations with the community may visit from time to time. Atitjere community plays an important role as a centre for ceremonial functions in the Sandover area, drawing people from Tobermorey, Ammaroo and Lake Nash. Ties with people from Santa Teresa, Amoonguna and
Alice Springs camps result in large increases in their population during ceremonial occasions. There are alcohol restrictions in force hence this is considered a ‘Dry Community’.
