Description of Ewaninga Ruin
Ewaninga Rail Siding. The Fettlers Cottage was constructed in 1929 & housed the fettlers who maintained the narrow gauge section of the Old Ghan Rail line. The last Ghan train passed through here at approx 9.40pm on 26th November, 1980 on its way to
Adelaide. Vandals badly damaged the cottage when it was set on fire in 1985. Since then it has been restored to its original condition by a group of volunteers. Notice boards provide excellent information about the Ghan, its route & significance in Australian history.
60 km further south is the Ewaninga Rock Carvings Conservation Reserve - again well sign posted & informative about our Aborigibal heritage. A well signposted short, easy walk around the site gives insight into the importance of this sacred place, Napatika. The drive out there is well worth the visit.
