 Description of Sir Frederick Range

The Summit of the Sir Frederick Range is the highest vehicle access point along the Sandy Blight Junction Track. This track was put in place by Australia's last true Modern day explorer, the late Len Beadell. While constructing the Sandy Blight Junction Track in 1960, Len reached the turn off point to the Sir Frederick Range on the 19th May 1960. Between the 20th and 21st May, a track was blazed to the summit. Please take note of the sign, as the track to the summit has very steep grades and is for high clearance four wheel drive vehicles only. Two vehicles in my group, a Nissan Navara and a Mazda BT 50 were not able to make it to the summit due to one factor only, "ground clearance". Take also a special note of the size of the stones that the cairn is made of, as these are the size of the rocks that you will be travelling over in order to make it to the summit.
Once you have reached the summit, you will be rewarded with 360 degree views of the surrounding country. There is a small tin with business cards and messages from past visitors.
