Description of Point Ann
Point Ann, and its surrounding beaches are great for
fishing, surfing, swimming, and beach driving (4WD only, advanced level – beware the tides and quicksand). This is the part of the world to get to if you want to get away from it all and stop and enjoy nature. Point Ann is around 3 hours drive east of
Esperance, and can be difficult driving in some parts due to mostly unsealed roads. 4WD is highly recommended.
There is also a purpose built whale watching platform to observe these creatures. Fur seals can also be seen here. Salmon and groper can be caught from the slaty end of Point Ann. It costs $5.50 per head for
camping – done on an honesty system, where you drop your money in the box. Please note that these fees help to maintain and protect these special spots. The designated
camping areas have pit-toilets. Gas fires only, and bring your own water. There are good shady sites set back from the beach. Spots are clearly marked, and there is a good level of privacy, which is not at all crowded due to its isolation. A real secret spot.
