Description of Mutawintji Historical Site
This site, which in 1998 was the first to be returned toils traditional Aboriginal owners, contains one of the best collections of Aboriginal rock art in NSW.
Entry is by Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council guided tour, leaving the campsite at 11 am on Saturdays and Wednesdays from April to October. Contact the
Broken Hill Tourist Information Centre (08 8088 9703) for information on commercial tour operators with access to the site. Walking tracks are of medium grade and unsuitable for wheelchairs.
Access 130 km north-east of
Broken Hill; turn east off the road to
Tibooburra. In wet
weather the road closes, so check on conditions before travelling.
